SNP President & MEP Ian Hudghton is marking International Womens' Day 2015 by calling on the European Union to 'make it happen'.

Following a historic year in the advancement of opportunities for women in Scotland, the Scottish MEP has called on Europe to smash the glass ceiling for women.

Ian Hudghton MEP said: "International Womens' Day is a time for us to pause and assess what we have done to promote equality and womens' rights in our communities over the year.  In Scotland, we have had a remarkable year with the election of our first female First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, and a 50:50 gender balance in the Scottish Government's Cabinet.

“Giving every woman and young girl the opportunity to succeed and fulfil their potential is a key priority of the SNP Government in Scotland.  I hope nations across Europe will see the overwhelming economic and social case for empowering women and ending gender discrimination to building a more prosperous and equal European Union."
